The
Official Anthem of the 2002 FIFA World Cup has been composed by Sony
Classical artist Vangelis.
The official anthem is a sensuous classical piece composed to reflect
the international significance of the first FIFA World Cup to be
held in Asia . The anthem takes classical drums and percussive elements
from Korean and Japanese music and fuses them with a hypnotic oriental
melody. This creates a genuinely moving piece of music that evokes
the rhythms and emotions of the beautiful game of football.
Vangelis began composing and performing as a child, and later earned
renown as a composer of film scores including compositions for "Salut
Jerusalem," the Oscar winning "Chariots of Fire,"
and "Blade Runner." Other Vangelis compositions include
his just realeased Sony Clasical album, "mythodea - music for
the NASA mission: 2001 Mars Odyssey",scores for Roger Donaldson's
"The Bounty," Liliana Cavani's "Francesco,"
and Roman Polanski's "Bitter Moon."
