Overview

Korea is honored to have been chosen to co-host, the first FIFA World Cup¢â tournament ever to be held in Asia. On behalf of the Korean FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee and the people of Korea, we would like to extend football lovers from around the globe an invitation to join us for the world's biggest sports event.

In Korea, we have gone to great lengths to play our part in making this the best FIFA World Cup¢â ever. We have built 10 brand new, state-of-the-art stadia, including the largest football-only stadium in Asia. The stadia reflect both the dynamism of the game of football and the traditional lines of Korean architecture.

We have arranged hundreds of cultural events and exhibitions throughout the nation, celebrating the game of football while providing newcomers to Korea with an opportunity to discover a little of what the country has to offer. We have also developed the infrastructure to ensure that visitors have no difficulty traveling around Korea.

More than 16,000 people have volunteered their time to help with organizing the event. They will provide support in many different areas, including logistics, administration, enquiries and language services. Korea has a proven track record of hosting stellar sports events, and the 2002 FIFA World Cup will continue that tradition.

Korea is a vibrant nation, rich in culture and heritage and devoted to the game of football. We look forward to welcoming you to Seoul for the Opening Ceremony on May 31st, 2002, and for the subsequent matches. We promise you an experience you will always remember.
