   Official Cultural Events

Host cities hold official cultural events; a series of heart-stirring exhibitions

Each Korean city hosting the 2002 FIFA World Cup¢â Games is holding its own unique cultural event to inaugurate the resident opening game. An unprecedented programming decision in FIFA's history, the 20-minute pre-opening game event will be held as a result of discussion between the KOWOC and the governing body of the quadrennial international event, and is designed to introduce each host city's unique culture to the world.
Host cities are also stoking the flames of World Cup fever by holding traditional folk merry-making events in which visitors can participate, in addition to staging parades in the streets and cheer shows near the stadiums that will begin three hours before a match. Eight host cities, including Seoul, have also installed large open-air screens in public parks or squares for real-time relaying of the matches, in anticipation of the large throngs of citizens gathering to watch them. Visitors to these cities can also enjoy special performance programs and bouts of merry-making events during the Games.
Besides all this activity, each host city is operating a "FIFA World Cup¢â Plaza" where visitors can get details on local culture, tourist attractions, lodging facilities and transportation means as well as information on the Games. IT Pavilions in the FIFA World Cup Plaza¢â in Seoul and Incheon are also showing various films that feature with space-age devices such as HD TVs and 3D TVs
